News from Mr Webb Deputy Principal Years Two Three and Four

Students, parents and teachers have all been working together to ensure our student’s academic, social and emotional learning journey continues to strengthen and grow. Our Impact Coaches have been continuously in and out of classrooms supporting teachers in developing their instructional strategies and increasing engagement in the classroom. Our two Behaviour and Engagement Coaches have been working hard, building our teachers capacity to differentiate instruction to effectively meet the needs of our students. Our Student Services team have been providing ongoing, high quality intervention and support to those students who need it. Community engagement has been outstanding. A number of community events organised at the school have been well supported with high attendance. I am so proud to be a part of our Challis Family and sharing in our vision to ensure we improve our student’s life out-comes.

A big part of achieving our vision is ensuring our students attend school every day. Attendance is whole school focus for this term and our target of 95% or above for student attendance is an important one.  We all want our students to gain a quality education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day. If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school. There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.

Our Challis students have a number of opportunities and events this term to support their learning. Our Year 3 students will be completing NAPLAN in weeks 3 and 4 and it was fantastic to see so many students at NAPLAN Club last Wednesday with 67 students attending from Year 3 and 5. The recent High Tea was a huge success with over 200 guests attending and a wonderful night of connection and excitement had by all. A homework club for our Year 2 and 3 students will be commencing this term in Week 5, as well as Dalefest in Week 7 and Mad Maths Day in Week 9.

Have a great week.

Thank-you,

Hayes Webb.
