The Challis Simply Strings Program gives opportunity to all students from Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 to choose to learn the Cello, Guitar or Violin. Through being part of this program, students receive a weekly music lesson in a small group. The Simply Strings teachers have specific Guitar, Violin and Cello ensembles that take place during the lunch time. There is also a performance group, the Simply Strings Orchestra, that rehearses after school 3:15-4pm and this group performs at school events and participates in extracurricular activities. All students work toward being part of a concert at the end of each Term, and they are expected to practice their instrument at home for 30 minutes every day.
Being a musician is more than just learning how to play music, it is about growing life skills of how to cope and persevere, and it is about building a broader social network by being around like-minded and inspired peers. Musicians learn the value of hard work, and that hard work can lead to great opportunities.
