The Artist in Residence Program is now in its final few weeks! I can hardly believe that the time has gone so quickly.
This Artist in Residence Grants Program project has been assisted by the Federal Government through the Australian Council for the Arts and the Western Australian State Government through the Department of Culture and the Arts and Department of Education.
The children in year 2 have finished their individual story books and are now working on their whole class projects for the final published book. Last week the children worked with the artists, Sean E Avery and Samantha Hughes to come up with a fantastic story. The children had remembered all the essential parts of the story structure, even though we had had school holidays since their last piece of writing. We were all really impressed with their creativity and willingness to work collaboratively.
In art classes the children worked in pairs to collage abstract backgrounds for their book pages. They drew inspiration from the illustrator Patricia Mullins and her wonderful book, A Crash of Rhinos’. We even managed to source the exact same tissue paper that Patricia had used in her book. I was in heaven with all the beautiful colour choices!
Next week the children will edit their class stories and we will be working on the illustrations for the book. We will discuss what the main characters look like and the children will use all the skills they have learned in making their character pictures come alive.
We can’t wait to show you our finished book at the art exhibition early in term 4.
